The Leaving Season
by Cat Jordan

25708587

Middie Daniels calls it the Leaving Season: the time of year when everyone graduates high school, packs up their brand-new suitcases, and leaves home for the first time.

This year Middie's boyfriend Nate is the one leaving. Nate, who's so perfect that she can barely believe it. Nate, who makes her better than she is on her own. Nate, who's promised to come back once he's finished his gap year volunteering in Central America. And when he does, it'll be time for Middie to leave, too. With him.

But when a tragedy strikes, Middie's whole world is set spinning. No one seems to understand just how lost she is... except for Nate's slacker best friend Lee. Middie and Lee never gotten along. But with the ground ripped out from under her, Middie is finding that up is down - and that Lee Ryan might be just what she needs to find her footing once more.

Cat Jordan's heartbreaking story proves that no matter the season, no matter the obstacles, love can help you find yourself in the most unexpected of places.

Elise Jameson is the secret author behind the bestselling, cult hit Viking Moon series. But when a stranger poses as Elise, the painfully shy, deaf nineteen-year-old starts to see how much she's missing. Can she really hide in the shadows forever? This clever, coming-of-age debut is for anyone who has ever felt unsure in their own skin.

After a freak childhood accident leaves her deaf and physically scarred, nineteen-year-old Elise Jameson retreats into a world of vibrant characters she creates on her laptop. She is shocked when her coping mechanism turns into a career as a phenomenal bestselling novelist. Fans are obsessed with Elise's Viking Moon series and its author - a striking girl with zero resemblance to Elise who appears on the back covers. Elise sent the randomly Googled photo to her editor following a minor panic attack. Now, horrified to learn she is expected on set of the television pilot based on her novels, Elise tracks down her anonymous stand-in. To Elise's surprise, Veronica Wilde has been taking credit for Viking Moon for years. She eagerly agrees to keep up the charade if Elise will pose as her assistant.

It's hard for Elise to watch a stranger take credit for her work and get all the perks she desires, including admiration from the show's heartthrob star. Edged into the sidelines of her own life, Elise reconsiders her choice to stay anonymous. Is she ready to com to terms with her true identity - and with the long-buried secrets that could cost her her careers, her fans, and the few precious friendships she's made?

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine. It spotlights books that have not yet been released, but ones that you should pre-order today! This week's book that I am anxiously awaiting is:

Assassin's Heart
by Sarah Ahiers

21421609

In the kingdom of Lovero, nine rival Families of assassins lawfully kill people for a price. As a highly skilled member of one of these powerful clans, seventeen-year-old Lea Saldana has always trusted in the strength of her Family. Until she awakens to find them murdered and her home in flames. The Da Vias, the Saldana's biggest enemy - must be responsible - and Lea should have seen in coming. But her secret relationship with the Da Via's son, Val, has clouded her otherwise killer instinct - and given the Da Vias more reason than ever to take her Family down.

Racked with guild and shattered over Val's probable betrayal, Lea sets out to even the score, with her heart set on retaliation and only one thought clear in her mind: make the Da Vias pay.

With shades of The Godfather and Romeo and Juliet, this richly imagined fantasy from debut author Sarah Ahiers is a story of love, lies, and the ultimate vengeance.

Why I Can't Wait

This book sounds so good! I love assassins and this book is all about it. Besides I want to find out if Val really betrayed her and why she was allowed to live while the rest of her family was murdered. I already have so many questions and I even haven't started this book yet!

Review: The Dragon of the Month Club by Iain Reading

25033448Title: The Dragon of the Month Club
Author: Iain Reading
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Middle Grade
Publisher: Createspace
Publication date: December 18th 2014
Pages: 236 (paperback)
Source: received from publisher/author (thank you!)

The Dragon of the Month Club is a new young adult fantasy adventure novel by Iain Reading.

The Dragon of the Month Club is the exciting first installment in a new book series that tells the story of Ayana Fall and Tyler Travers, two best friends who stumble across an extraordinarily magical book and soon find themselves enrolled as members of a very special and exclusive club - The Dragon of the Month Club.

On the thirteenth of every month a new dragon conjuring spell is revealed and the two friends attempt to summon the latest Dragon of the month. The varieties are almost endless: Air Dragons, Paper Dragons, Fog Dragons, Waterfall Dragons, Rock Dragons, Tree Dragons - not to mention special bonus dragons for all the major holidays, including a particularly prickly Holly Dragon for Christmas.

But one day when a conjuring spell somehow goes wrong Ayana and Tyler find themselves unexpectedly drawn into a fantastical world of adventure based on the various books scattered all across Tyler's messy bedroom. Travelling from one book-inspired world to the next with nothing to rely on but their wits and a cast of strange and exotic dragons at their disposal they must try to somehow find their way home again.

Drawing inspiration from some of literature's most memorable stories - from 19th century German folktales to the streets of Sherlock Holmes's London - the adventure of Ayana and Tyler bring these classic stories to life in a delightfully strange and unexpected ways. Filled with fascinating detail and non-stop action these books will spark the imaginations of readers of all ages to inspire a life-long love of reading and seeking out books that are just a little bit off the beaten track.

The Dragon of the Month Club is the second series that I have read by Iain Reading. I read his Kitty Hawk series before and I loved those books. So when the publisher approached me with the request to read this book I could not pass up the offer. This series I completely different than his other one since is more fantasy but I still enjoyed it immensely.

Ayana moved from Vancouver to some small town in Alberta, Canada. It is never easy to be the new girl in a school, especially not in a small town where everybody has known each other for years. But then she met Tyler in the local library. Tyler and Ayana soon became best of friends and often they would hang out at the library, the place they first met. Here they found a book that would change their lives completely.

How to Conjure Your Very Own Dragon in Six Easy Steps seemed like a weird book at first. Conjuring a dragon? That could never be possible could it? But when Ayana and Tyler try to conjure their first dragon it actually works. What follows is a crazy adventure with lot of dragons, creatures in a dessert, a whishing tree and even Sherlock Holmes!

The Dragon of the Month  Club is a very enjoyable read. It takes you on a crazy adventure in a magical world. I am a grown adult and I still enjoyed reading it. It was easy to get drawn into the world Iain Reading created in this book and it kept me wanting to read on. This book is mainly for middle graders so if you have one at home that likes magic and adventures that this one should definitely be on their and your reading list. This book is the first one in a series and I cannot wait to see how Ayana’s and Tyler’s adventure will continue!

Review: Unlocking Her Boss's Heart by Christy McKellen

More than just a job!

Cara Winstone is determined to bounce back from her last - disastrous - PA job, and working for Max Firebrace is exactly how she's going to do it. Little does Cara know that walking into her brooding boss's luxurious London town house also has her walking into his past.

Since losing his wife, Max doesn't think he has any love left to give. But something in the warmth of Cara's smile jump-starts Max's heart again, making him wonder if he's ready for a new happy-ever-after; with Cara by his side.

Christy McKellen is a wonderful adult romance writer. This is the third book that I have read by her and her books never disappoint me.

Unlocking Her Boss’s Heart might sound a bit cliché, an ordinary girl falls in love with her brooding boss, but this one is delivered nicely. Besides it was well written. Christy has an writing style that sucks you into the story. It is simplistic and easy and that is exactly what I want on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I really liked the characters that the author has created in this novel. Max initially did not come across as the most fuzzy person. He was rather cold and harsh at first but as the story went on he actually started to grow on me. Throughout the book he showed why he was so cold, he had lost a lot in the past year or so. So it was quiet understandable why he was so closed off towards others, especially towards people who he had never met before. Cara was a really nice girl, she was likeable and I liked the way she handled Max. A lot of people wouldn’t have put up with his temper but she did and she handled it with class. Like Max she had also gone through a lot in the past couple of months, which had changed her. So they both had some baggage with them when they first met each other. But I believe that people who have baggage themselves are the best to help you out. And Max and Cara proved that to me.

Another aspect that I liked about this book was that it is set in London. London has been my home now for the last couple of months and it is always great to read about places that you know. And I could relate to Cara when it came to find affordable/decent housing in the city. It can be a real nightmare!

Unlocking Her Boss’s Heart was a short and quick read. It made me feel the connection and chemistry between the characters, so Christy McKellen has accomplished her mission. I would recommend it to everyone who is looking for a sweet, clean, romance story. Personally I cannot wait till Christy McKellen publishes a new story!
