Friendship is overrated, if you ask her

She's always just been one of the guys until she falls in love with one of the guys. Except Bailey Sheppard has carried a torch for firefighter Ethan Bishop since high school. And now that his long-term girlfriend has left him brokenhearted, she's free to go after what she's always wanted.

Not that Ethan sees Bailey as anything but a friend. A best friend maybe, but still not a woman he'd be interested in. Pining for his ex has made him blind to the possibility of happiness with anyone else. But can Ethan resist a woman who knows what she wants?

Bailey always has been one of the boys, she grew up as a tomboy. She rather worked in her uncle’s auto shop than do girly things like other girls her age. It has never been a problem for Bailey hanging out with guys is so much more fun. There is way less drama and at least they understand her when she’s talking about cars. The only thing is that they see her only as one of the guys, not as a potential girlfriend. And all Bailey wants is for Ethan to notice her as something else than his best friend, but Ethan is still pining over his ex-girlfriend who left him six months ago.

I loved the characters. Bailey, ever one of the guys, showed that a girl can be beautiful and feminine and at the same time knows how to work with both of her hands better than most probably would. I cheered Bailey on when she finally took the now or never step towards Ethan even when it left her vulnerable. And I cried together with her when she had to let the person she cared the most for go because she knew that it was the right thing to do.
Ethan was the guy your parents would be happy about if you brought him home. He’s strong and caring. He always looks out for others even if he knows they might be mad at him for it. He always does the right thing even if it means that it will cost his own happiness. His only flaw: How could he not have noticed how perfect Bailey was for him! And when he finally found out it was almost too late. I really wanted to kick him in that moment.

What a Girl Wants is a sweet story about friendship and love. I loved the small town setting of this book, I don’t think the story would have worked as well if it was set in a big one. The characters were full of life and so real. What happened to Bailey and Ethan could happen to anyone of us. When the story ended I was sad, I wasn’t ready yet to let them and Brookhollow go. I really enjoyed being with all of these lovely characters in Brookhollow and I hope to see them again in the future!
