Fifteen-year-old Izzy Brannick was trained to fight monsters. For centuries, her family has hunted magical creatures. But when Izzy’s older sister vanishes without a trace while on a job, Izzy's mom decides they need to take a break.
Izzy and her mom move to a new town, but they soon discover it’s not as normal as it appears. A series of hauntings has been plaguing the local high school, and Izzy is determined to prove her worth and investigate. But assuming the guise of an average teenager is easier said than done. For a tough girl who's always been on her own, it’s strange to suddenly make friends and maybe even have a crush.
Can Izzy trust her new friends to help find the secret behind the hauntings before more people get hurt?
Rachel Hawkins' delightful spin-off brings the same wit and charm as the New York Times best-selling Hex Hall series. Get ready for more magic, mystery and romance!
Opinion
This was
the first book that I’ve read by Rachel Hawkins and it definitely didn’t
disappoint me. Her Hex Hall series have been standing on my TBR list for ages
and I still need to read them, but I think that I get why people are so in love
with them.
The main characters, Izzy and Dex, were truly great. Izzy is tough but fun at the same time and Dex made me laugh a lot. I loved how we got to know Dex story and background, his ‘secrets’ were revealed bit by bit and he even had some secrets he even didn’t know about! Which made the story very unpredictable.
The book was rather quick to read and I finished it only in a couple of hours. The school spirit is present in the whole book, but it isn’t till the end of the book that she becomes important to the story. I liked that, because that meant that we got to know all the characters in this book better before the real action began. We even got to know a man in the mirror, Torin, before that Izzy went to school he was the only one she could really talk to besides her mom. And I liked him, which is good since I think that he’s going to play a bigger part in the next book, but I’ve also got some trust issues with him because his advice is not always that great to follow.
So I really liked this book, I’m definitely going to continue this series and I need to read the Hex Hall series soon!
